🔦 Feature Spotlight
Similar Players - One of the best things about competing in All Star and U23 tournaments on Sorare is that it doesn’t matter where your players are from, they simply have to score more fantasy points than everyone else. For example, getting 82.5 points from Mark Uth in GW 266 was more valuable than the 54.9 from Lionel Messi in terms of winning rewards, and he obviously costs significantly less.
Finding players who score similarly to the stars but aren’t nearly as expensive is a key strategy for performing well in Sorare competitions. We know that the resale value of Messi is much much higher than Uth, but if you’re a Sorare manager who focuses on scoring the most fantasy points, and therefore winning the best rewards, our Similar Players feature is very helpful.
Let’s check out Real Betis’ Nabil Fekir, who has an L5 (average over his last five gameweeks) of 55, L15 of 58 and L40 of 61.
Those scores are very good, even for a Champion Europe player, but they also come at a high price, most recently €1,831/1.7 ETH. However, using the Similar Players tool, which is found on every player page, will show players who score similarly while also showing their most recent sales averages and current floor prices.
As we can see, players like Dino Hotic, Yuma Suzuki, Mateus Castro and Sebastian Driussi each have scored similarly to Fekir, and all have floor prices lower than Fekir’s recent trading averages (another one further down the list: Mark Uth!). Additionally, SorareData users can narrow down their searches by choosing specific leagues (Sorare competitions like Champion Europe or domestic leagues), changing the duration to L5 or L40, position, and age range.
You cannot use Hotic, Suzuki, Mateus or Driussi in Champion Europe, but if you’re someone who was considering using Fekir in All Star tournaments, the Similar Players tool is extremely helpful in finding players who score in the same range but may cost much less. Of course, we can’t ignore that they cost less because most don’t allow you to compete in the most lucrative region (Champion Europe), they may be less famous, they could be slightly older or simply just not as collectible.
🧐 Who is Winning Underdog and Specialist Leagues?
The Underdog and Specialist leagues have been great additions to the Sorare tournament lobby, and we’ve seen some amazing prizes distributed to the winners, including rare cards of Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi, limiteds of Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland, super rares of Marek Hamšík and Robert Ljubičić, and uniques of Gareth Bale and Shinnosuke Hatanaka.
One of the best parts of these tournaments is that you can win cards of a higher scarcity, meaning you can be awarded rare cards from lineups made up entirely of limiteds, or super rares from rares or uniques from super rares. This progression allows Sorare managers of all budgets to compete for different top-end prizes that potentially help them move to higher-level tournaments in future gameweeks. (It’s worth noting that not every tournament awards higher scarcity cards to the winners, like Underdog, but we have gotten Tier 0 cards in those that do not.)
Based on the cards required for each tournament, the expectation is that managers competing in the Specialist Super Rare + Unique League would have higher gallery valuations than those who compete in Underdog Limited League. Out of our own curiosity, we decided to look at the gallery values of managers who finished in the top three positions in each Underdog and Specialist tournament since they began to see what types of managers have been finishing in the podium places.
In reality, we know that managers with bigger budgets likely had more success, but there have been some incredible examples of managers with smaller galleries winning single rewards that more than doubled their gallery values. To give you an idea of podium placers for Underdog Limited League, here’s a breakdown based on gallery value ranges (in ETH for the first chart):
To be honest, the results surprised us a little bit, as lower-valued galleries seem to be taking more of the podium places than the higher-end ones. Maybe the work required to find cards of players averaging fewer than 50 fantasy points over the past 15 gameweeks isn’t worth it for those with higher aspirations, leaving more opportunities for others.
And if we extend it to all of the Underdog and Specialist Leagues, we see just the type of trend that we’d expect, as the tournaments that require more valuable cards to compete in have managers that own bigger galleries:
As we see, all types of galleries are represented, but we wanted to take a few moments to highlight some of the managers who won big cards with smaller budgets. In order to determine gallery size, we used the 1-month average roster value history in ETH and USD (available on all manager pages on SorareData under the Manager stats tab) to see some of the smallest galleries that have finished in a top-3 position in either Underdog or Specialist League.
Sorare manager Mr.Green! had quite a GW 284, finishing third in the Specialist Limited League after beginning the gameweek with a gallery value of 0.1512 ETH or $161.78. Here’s a look at the lineup:
And the prize for such a magnifient combination: a Gerónimo Rulli rare card that helped push their gallery value up more than 10x:
We’ve so far seen 21 Sorare managers go into gameweeks with gallery values less than 1 ETH, including 12 under $1,000, and come away with top-3 prizes in either Specialist Limited League or Underdog Limited League, with the former vastly increasing gallery values because you can win rare cards at the top of the Specialist Limited League.
Sorare manager SKIMMER is well aware of that, as they went into GW 263 with a gallery valued at 0.25 ETH/$750, and used a lineup with two mini-stacks and Mark Uth (there he is again!) to win a Mike Maignan rare card.
And what did that do to their gallery value? Well, you can see:
In addition to congratulating those who have won rewards in these tournaments, here’s a review of the minimum fantasy points required to win cards in the limited and rare special weekly competitions:
It is tough to draw any conclusions from these charts because of the relatively small samples, especially with the rare leagues. Additionally, the rules for Underdog haven’t been consistent, changing from a L15s below 40 fantasy points to 45 and then 50. There could be an expectation that we will see an increase in the points required for rewards once the European leagues return to play. As always, we’ll keep track and revisit the data when we have more results to review.
