What’s 🆕
Manager Gallery Improvements - We have added a number of different filters to the manager gallery Players tab, including the ability to choose one or multiple scarcities, and re-sort how cards are displayed.
Additionally (and we know we said this would be a football-only newsletter, but humor us for a moment), you can see your entire Sorare portfolio together, if you choose, or you can select football or baseball.
🔦 Feature Spotlight
Gameweek Center Matchups Tab - There are many different factors that go into deciding whether one of your players has a good matchup in the upcoming gameweek, but what if you are looking to purchase a new card (maybe for a Specialist league?) and you’re not quite sure which teams have the best situations for victory and scoring multiple goals?
One tool you can use is our Matchups page, which is found in the Gameweek Center. The page will show a list of all teams playing in the gameweek, as well as any cards you may own from those teams, which Sorare competitions they are available in, when their match is, and, maybe most importantly, the bookmaker odds from the match (when available), showing each team’s win percentage, clean sheet chances, odds to score three goals, and odds to concede three, all from our partners at Unibet.
This tab is particularly useful as an overview of the matchups teams have each gameweek. In the screenshot above, we can see that there are not many overwhelming favorites with high win odds, which means there could be lower SO5 scores required to win rewards versus weeks when we have favorites with win odds over 80%.
Users can also select future gameweeks to see matchups (bookmaker odds aren’t always available that far ahead) while also having the option to only see matches in which you have players. The odds shown are the same as what is presented in the Lineup Builder, but the matchups tab is another helpful tool for those planning a bit ahead.
SorareData Newsletter Indexes 📈
One of the things we loved about the new and enhanced player watchlists was the ability to create our own indexes that would allow us to track card prices over different scarcities and time frames. There is no “correct” way to create an index for these purposes, but we’re taking a shot at our own, which are now available as public watchlists (just click the images below to be directed to the watchlist and hit the ❤️ to add it to your followed watchlists).
We started out with five different indexes, one for each regional competition, which includes 30 players each, and one overall SorareData Newsletter Player Index, which is a full combination of the regionals. To see how each are doing, here’s a breakdown of the average € prices for limited cards over the past year.
These indexes will be useful for next week’s newsletter, but you’ll have to wait to find out more. 😉
How many lineups are managers entering? (Part ✌️)
We spent some time in last week’s newsletter looking into how many Sorare managers enter only one tournament each gameweek, which eventually led us to wonder how many managers submit any other number, whether 2, 5, 10, 15, 20 or more.
After looking into that data, we highlighted the four managers (Il_Fenomeno, Nanzo, Migo and PawelTrader) who each entered 37 tournaments in GW 270, the most we’ve seen in any gameweek. The end of the 2021/22 European season meant fewer lineups were being submitted after that, and it wasn’t until this past weekend (GW 288) that we saw managers submitting more than 26 entries into tournaments (congratulations again to Nanzo for leading the way with 30).
So what we wanted to analyze is how many of the total tournament entries are submitted by managers who submit only one versus those who submit between two and five, those who have six to 10, and those who have 11 or more. The below chart will show that roughly half of all entries submitted are by Sorare managers who are only entering one contest, including many gameweeks above 60%:
We can also see the trend when we look at the number of entries per gameweek:
It’s easy to see that the number of managers entering more than five lineups each gameweek (the red and gold in the graph above) is small, and we should also analyze if the percentage of managers entering more than five each gameweek is rising or not. To do that, let’s analyze a simple line graph:
It seems that the percentage of total entries from managers who entered more than five lineups hasn’t really changed much since GW 194, which was the first gameweek that included limited rewards. The peak over this timeframe was GW 270, which, as you may remember, is when we had four managers each entering 37 tournaments. Overall, we haven’t seen much change in the percentage (the rises on the graph are mostly weekend gameweeks), but we do know that there was an increase in the total number of entries toward the end of the European season before the summer decline. What this tells us is that we’re seeing more managers entering
Then again, it’s encouraging that the percentage is staying somewhat steady, as it means we are seeing more managers expanding their number of entries, and Sorare are not necessarily reliant solely on new managers to increase the total number of entries across the lobby. And given the increase in Special Weekly tournaments, there could be reason to believe that the number of managers who enter more than five tournaments each gameweek could stay constant or even increase in the coming months.
We’ll revisit this again in a few months when we have more data during the 2022/23 European season to see if there have been any changes.
